The 15th edition of the IPL ended on Sunday night with Hardik Pandya leading the Gujarat Titans to win their first ever IPL title. The two-month tournament saw several excellent performances from players from different departments. Here are some of the key stats from IPL 2022.

  • Rajasthan Royals fly-half Jos Buttler stood out among the other batsmen by scoring 863 runs this season. The orange cap holder was in magical contact throughout the tournament. He reached 4 centuries this year as well as 4 half centuries and also became the second highest single season goalscorer in the IPL, just behind Virat Kohli.
  • LSG skipper KL Rahul may have impressed people with his role as captain, but his batting this year has had an impact as well. The skilled hitter hit 616 runs at a rate of 51.33. He hammered two tons and four fifty in the process.
  • His opening partner, Quinton de Kock followed suit, scoring 508 points with a success rate of 36.28.

2. Turning the game around with the ball

  • KKR’s enigmatic spinner Sunil Narine had the best save (5.57) this season for any bowler who bowled at least 10 overs.
  • Royal Challengers Bangalore point guard Mohammed Siraj had a terrible year with the ball, giving away the most sixes (31).
  • Rajasthan’s Prasidh Krishna may have thrown the most point balls, but he was also the one to give away 545 points, which is the most for bowlers this season.

  • Yuzvendra Chahal finished the league with the most wickets. He cut 27 scalps while maintaining a saving rate of 7.75.
  • Wanindu Hasaranga of Royal Challengers Bangalore came second on the list. At an average of 16.53, he made 26 layoffs with a saving of 7.54.

4. Personal milestones in IPL 2022

  • This season, Jasprit Bumrah has taken 15 wickets. He was pretty tight with his economy (7.18). After Lasith Malinga, he is the first bowler to win 15 wickets in seven consecutive IPL seasons.
  • 234 runs by Buttler are the most by any player in knockouts in a single IPL edition.
  • Rajat Patidar has become the first uncapped player to reach a century in the IPL play-offs.
  • KL Rahul is the only player to have scored over 600 runs in 3 consecutive seasons.
  • Virat Kohli is the only player to score over 300 points in 13 consecutive IPL editions

5. IPL 2022: Other Key Stats

  • Mumbai Indians’ Tilak Varma impressed in his first season. He finished the tournament as MI’s second-highest points scorer with 397 points. According to Cricbuzz, he scored the fourth most points by an uncapped player in the inaugural IPL.
  • Rahul and Kock’s unbeaten 210-point opening partnership against KKR is the third-highest partnership for all wickets in the IPL.
  • Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Choudhary won the most wickets (11) on the power play.
  • Dinesh Karthik had an excellent strike rate of 242 in the kills.
  • The spin trio, Chahal, Kuldeep and Hasaranga took 20 wickets each in the middle. for their respective teams.
